When I was asked to take up a project in MGML(Bayer's flagship accelerated leadership development program) which would have a business impact, I was motivated to make a difference. My MGML mentor guided me to take up the right product to work upon. In India, unlike the global situation, we have two different arms within radiology. My mission was to combine these two arms to make sure that the customers receive the end benefit. With this objective in mind, I selected the right combination of products with the contrast media and device business to market to radiologists as a customised solution for each patient. This idea of leveraging on the market share and strengths of the products worked wonders! This was well appreciated by the Head of Marketing CT, X-ray & Informatics APAC and Head Radiology Asia Sub region and then came one of the biggest turning points of my career - my first international assignment!
The organisation decided bestow on me the responsibility of a product relaunch as a Project Team Lead comprising of cross functional and multinational team members. This assignment helped me gain exposure to the business environments in different countries and made me appreciate the role that local and cultural environments play in strategy and decision making. The experience taught me a lot of things and has expanded my horizons of thinking. Today, the project has gained considerable mileage and I am now highly excited and looking forward to the pilot launch in India.
Thanks to the MGML program, I got the opportunity to closely interact and learn from senior colleagues, acquire people and leadership skills, understand and appreciate the roles of other functions and see the ‘big picture’ of the business as a whole. It surely provides a great platform for talented leaders to flourish.
